Our Services

HR Consultants offer a wide range of services, including (but not limited to):

Generalist HR Management cover. If the workload of the HR team is in excess of the manpower, be it due to a short term project, a member of the HR team absent, either through long term sickness or maternity or simply recruitment of a new manager taking a long time. HRC can offer experienced and competent HR cover, full or part time to see you through this period. As well as keeping the 'show on the road' we can use the time efficiently to review or update aspects such as your policies or procedures.

Remote ad hoc advice on HR processes and Employment law. Smaller companies which do not have their own HR department would benefit from our remote service. This can be established on either a retainer or an ad hoc basis and we will work with the client to ensure that their needs are met in a cost effective manner. At the end of a phone we can deal quickly and effectively with your every day questions.

All aspects of recruitment and selection. Whether it is one new member of staff you are looking for, or a whole team, internal or external, HRC can help. We will undertake the project and work with you 'in house' from writing the advert to the offer stage or manage the process remotely and simply present you with an appropriate short list of candidates.

Consultation - both individual and collective. Mergers, take overs, TUPE, acquisitions and restructuring exercises will all affect staff. Their input and buy in is often vital and in many cases consultation with the staff is a legal requirement. During this time, which is particularly busy and unsettling for all staff, your regular team will also have to continue their 'day jobs' so HRC can deal with the consultation for you ensuring the process is correctly documented.

Training employee representatives on their role. Within the situations mentioned above, staff will need to be consulted on a collective basis. Many of them will not have been in such situations previously and will not fully understand the process. They may well be sceptical too. We can arrange the confidential nominations and ballots, then train the elected representatives, helping them to understand how to conduct the consultation in a manner which will ultimately benefit all concerned.

Design, management and running of Development/Selection/Assessment centres. Assessment centres are becoming more common and are used in many different situations, from selection into a position or selection for redundancy to a benchmarking exercise for key staff or for identification of development needs for any level of employee. We can design the centre, for a duration to suit the needs of the exercise and the business, be it a half day to a week. We can include testing, presentations, group, individual or written exercises. We are also able to train assessors so future centres can be run 'in house'.

Production or updating of staff handbooks. Corporate image and culture changes may necessitate alterations in staff handbooks and with ever changing employment law, it is easy for your staff handbook to quickly become out of date. We can review your current documents and suggest amendments and updates in line with best practice and current legislation. We can also produce policies from scratch as your organisation develops and has different or new needs.

Redundancy exercise management. When redundancies are unavoidable, we can manage the project for you, including advice on calculation of any payments, selection criteria and documentation needed to support decisions.

Counselling and conflict management. Occasionally relationships just break down or the stresses and strains of the workplace become too much for an individual. At HRC we have qualified counsellors who will also act as an independent 'ear' to listen or just a 'critical friend' to bounce ideas off.

Outplacement courses. Staff will leave the employment of your company for many reasons, but when it is the company leading the decision it is important for both those going (and those remaining) and the company's reputation that they leave with dignity. HRC can provide many levels of outplacement from one to one coaching to a group seminar. We can cover subjects such as writing a CV, interview technique, networking, setting up a business or how to deal with early retirement.

Advice on set up or running of European Works Councils/staff forums. We can arrange for nominations of representatives and the ballots to elect the staff, we can also brief the new representatives of the purpose and remit of a works council and meeting structure.

Psychometric testing and personality profiles. We are qualified to test, interpret and feedback in various psychometric and personality tools including SHL, Oxford Psychology Press, Thomas PPA, Myers Briggs and 16PF.

First line management training/coaching. Staff who are promoted or recruited into their first line management role may well need some extra help at the onset. HRC can provide this help, tailoring a programme to the needs of the individual. We would include such areas as appraisals, handling disciplinaries, staff development, interviewing and selection of new staff.

Job descriptions and person specifications. Whether this is for a specific exercise or just good house keeping, we can work with line managers and staff to ensure that staff have accurate and up to date job descriptions that are useful to both the individual and the company.

Managing organisational change from an HR perspective. Dealing with the changing leadership, dealing with organisational restructures and the selection into or out of this structure, updating, amending or harmonising policies and designing and implementing any required new procedures.

Dealing with large scale restructures and the resulting ramifications. See above
